Written on December 17, 2011 by Douglas R

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Police in Wisconsin’s capital city barely had to try to catch a pair of unlucky suspected thieves.

Madison police say two men in their late 20s stole DVDs and computer games from a Target store Tuesday and discussed their plans to fence the goods while driving away.

China Announces Tariff on U.S. Made Cars with Large Engines

Written on December 11, 2011 by Maragaret Harrison

China announces plans to slap duties on U.S. made cars with large engines.

The action comes as trade tensions between the U.S. and China are rising. It also comes after the United States placed a tariff on Chinese tires.

Experts don’t expect the move by China to deal a significant blow to U.S. automakers because many of the autos sold in China are also made there.

But recently, Hanauer wrote an opinion piece for Bloomberg News that was a plea to the government: “Please tax me more.”

These days, Hanauer is a venture capitalist who was one of the first big investors in Amazon. He’s not quite a billionaire, but not that far off, either, and he insists his plea is all about self-interest.

“I reject the idea that I am advocating higher taxes for myself and other wealthy people because I’m a good person or because I love you,” Hanauer tells weekends on All Things Considered host Guy Raz. “Let me just be very clear: I do not love you. I value you as a potential customer, and we have rigged the economic system in a way to destroy my customer base.”

The top income tax rate in America is 35 percent.
